Emmanuel & Michael
When life starts and one is born, nobody knows who will be the path in which they are brought forth to this world. Just like any other person, Emmanuel &Michael were brought to this world by their mother and unfortunately like many more African children, they were not so fortunate to have been born in a better world. From the Karama jog communities, they emerged and poured on the streets of Kampala. At an early age, they were forced to look for a way to survive. On the streets they roamed in search for at least a daily meal because that’s all they could hope for.
Just like God is just in all his ways and what he cannot do does not exist there was no doubt, and neither was it a coincidence that the Emmanuel had to appear at the right time and in the right place and to the right people. It could have been anyone else because it was a community service that was designed to change anyone’s life. Little did he know that it was his time and GOD had already designed a place and people to come to his rescue.”Mpako kikumi uncle “he said with a stream of tears flowing from his eyes with a touch of mucus .Only to ask what his problem was, he had spent days without eating and with no hopes of getting any food or whatsoever so he was hunger stricken .
This was heart breaking for anybody who understood how it felt to be hungry and vulnerable with totally no one to lean on. 500UGX this uncle had with him in the pocket with hopes of getting himself a chapati and a bottle of water. When offered to the boy it seemed like an answered prayer and trust me it was worth the sacrifice because of the big smile he wore. He later own stated that he lived with a brother and mother after a short conversation held with him. Here is when he was requested that, he takes this good friend of his to their place of residence because something pushed the uncle to wanting to know more about this little boy. We headed to a slum area referred to by many as kiKaramoja ghetto in Katwe Slums and there is where we found the brother Michael whose health was alarming because his whole body was covered with wounds and there sat a mother who was pregnant, but her conditions of living were not favorable at all.
Michael was taken to hospital to see that his health was better some food staffs and clothes were bought for a start for them to at least escape hunger for a certain period. At a sum of 30$ as a monthly salary by then, the founder of penner childcare none other than ”Mr. Turyantunga felex” took it upon himself to continue helping this family no matter the challenges. This is when the family is picked up and led to experiencing a better life. This was such a turning point in the boy’s life and his family.
As we speak, Michael and Emmanuel are acquiring education, they have a place to call home, with basic needs being provided for them thus receiving the care that they need as children. We regard them as the heart of penner because as their new life started, so was penner childcare that later rebranded to Penner ministries today .They dream of growing up and becoming great citizens of this nation. Emmanuel wishes to become a pastor so he can preach to the lost souls, how encouraging! I can happily say that hope was restored.
